Rams Men

The Rams currently have two adult men's team as well as an under 19 boys team. We compete in the Southern Alberta Division 2 and 3, and each team plays 12 regular season games, either on Friday nights or Saturday. Over the past few seasons we have grown our player base considerably and plan to compete in all three divisions in 2013. Our goal for the upcoming (2012) season will be to recruit, train and develop a player base of 75-80 players.

2011 was a good year for our growing club;

- Our 1st XV finished first in the league standings over 12 games, before losing narrowly in the semi-final of the playoffs. The average age of our 1st XV was only 22 years of age, which bodes well for next year when most of the guys should return bigger and stronger and just that little more mature.

- Our Division 3 (Development/Social XV) had a solid season, with many of the guys who started on the team making their way into the 1st XV throughout the year. We finished in 5th place, just missing out on a playoff spot, but the goal of developing players while having fun throwing the ball around was achieved. With lots of our Division 3 team being family men and spending time with the wife and kids, we will look to establish a player base for this team of around 30-35 players for next season.

The Rams have a wide range of players, with different backgrounds, skill levels and experience. With a work hard, play hard ethic, we like to think of ourselves as one of the more social rugby clubs in Calgary. Over the years we have had our fair share of honours, and have been represented on both the international and regional scene by many of our home grown players. In 2011 we were proud to see our very own John Anderson break into the Senior men's Prairie WolfPack team.

Looking ahead, the future looks bright for the Rams, who 4 years ago looked to be on the brink of extinction with only 1 men's team and no juniors. Our long-term goal is to compete in all 3 senior men's divisions (Alberta Cup, Division 2 and Div 3/Social) which means 2012 will see us continuing to work hard building our foundation. Recruiting players (local & import), coaches and team managers will be top priority while adding a U17 men's team to our junior ranks will allow us to continue to grow our talent pool.
